The 1st bald, Beauty Queen of North Carolina!

Sandra Dubose-Gibson is clearly on her way to becoming the next international multimedia sensation. This multitalented entrepreneur is the fresh, new dynamic voice in motivational speaking today. She is professional performing artist an inspiring personal story that has made national headlines. She is an insightful, young independent filmmaker, recording artist, actress and professional entertainer captivating audiences though her words and song, on stage and on the radio. She has been a student of the performing arts since her early childhood days and followed her passion through the years which she says, led her right into her purpose.

Throughout her career, Sandra has worked as a professional studio vocalist and performed in musical theater productions touring all over the United States. This includes a tour with the longest running gospel play in history, “Mama I Want to Sing” and most recently in, “A Christmas Carol” starring Ira David Wood III at the Durham Performing Arts Center and Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. The stage has always been her first love and she has been blessed to share the music spotlight with some world renowned artists like gospel great, Edwin Hawkins, Tony Terry and R & B superstar, El Debarge. As a singer/songwriter, Sandra enjoys performing her original music with lyrical content that is always uplifting and inspiring. Her plan is to record a full album in the near future showcasing her amazing vocal and writing availability. With her gospel roots and jazzy interpretations expressed in her rich alto register, this project is already lovingly anticipated by her loyal fans all over the world.

An agent for change through artistic expression

Through a series of life events, Sandra has uncovered her purpose and innate ability to inspire others by sharing her testimony and beautiful voice. She helps others to develop healthy self esteem and empowers them to embrace life challenges as opportunities for growth and self discovery.  Sandra’s life itself is an example of the power of faith and the infinite potential of the human spirit in everyone.  At the age of 25, she was faced with the incurable auto immune disease, Alopecia Universalis, which resulted in the complete loss of all of the hair on her body. Initially overcome by low self esteem, she embarked upon a transformative journey to rediscover self love and true self acceptance. She has emerged a living example that true beauty originates from within and can never be taken away.

With the birth of her company Dubose Entertainment, in 2008 Sandra transformed pain into passion by producing and directing her debut documentary film “Project Liberation, My Alopecia Experience” which is available for purchase or to rent on line at Amazon.com. To accompany the film, she produced a mini- soundtrack of inspirational music she wrote and performed featuring the hit song, “I’m Beautiful” which can be found on ITUNES and other on line record stores. In 2009, she founded the Alopecia Community of the Triangle, a support group for adults and children challenged with hair loss conditions in and around Raleigh, NC.

As a testament of her courage and star power, on Saturday, March 26, 2011, Sandra competed bald in a state wide beauty pageant and was crowned 2011 Mrs. Black North Carolina. She made history by becoming the 1st Bald Beauty Queen of North Carolina. She travels throughout the United States promoting her platform of Alopecia Areata awareness and healthy self esteem for all by speaking at conferences, corporations, churches, colleges and high schools.

A RADICAL Woman

On March 31, 2012, just as her year long reign as 2011 Mrs. Black North Carolina came to an end, she was given yet another honor by RADICAL success coach, Doreen Rainey and won the 2012 Radical Woman Award. This award recognizes and honors the woman who is bold and courageous enough to depart from the usual, expected or ordinary in order to take charge of her professional and personal life. This woman lives with purpose and passion in all that she does and is committed to defining success for herself. She has designed a lifestyle that reflects her commitment to her family, her career, her community and to her self-care. Sandra says, “It is an honor to be recognized by successful women that I personally admire just for being my authentic self and having the tenacity to pursue my dreams. It is the sweetest pat on the back that makes the hard times all worthwhile. Winning this confirms for me that I am headed in the right direction and it is a source of motivation for me to continue moving forward in the most radical way.”

Currently Sandra is completing her memoir to be released in spring 2012 entitled, “My Crown and Glory, It’s Not About the Hair” In this inspiring book, Sandra shares some very personal life experiences from her childhood until present exploring the lessons she has learned in overcoming low self esteem.

Sandra can be heard monthly as a radio personality for the jazz music show “Straight No Chaser” on WSHA 88.9 FM in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is available to speak, sing and inspire people all over the world. Her talent, charisma and humor have impacted many lives and the boundless influence of her gift has only just begun to flourish. Through her words and songs, she is shear inspiration, changing lives and leading by example.

Sandra was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. Currently she resides in Apex, NC with her husband of 16 years and their two beautiful daughters.
